Our preschool children are able to use facilities over two base rooms.
The first room for the preschool is a large area where a variety of learning areas and experiences are available including writing areas, home corner/role play, construction area, book corner, sand and water trays and art and craft materials. Various preschool activities are provided throughout the day with a mixture of child initiated and adult led experiences available.
The second base room for preschool learning is smaller, allowing space for quieter or one to one activities. It also houses a computer and a large interactive white board to develop your child’s Information Computer Technology skills.
We provide a free flow environment between the indoor and outdoor play areas. Our outdoor area is spacious with varied resources to challenge your child’s physical skills including a large climbing frame, mirrors, ride on toys, balls, bats and hoops etc. Our new sensory garden allows children to explore nature and feel, smell and experience a variety of plants. They can also make their way through the willow tunnel and discover the grizzly delights of our bug corner.
We plan the environment and all preschool activities to meet your child’s individual interests and developmental requirements. We try to make experiences challenging and exciting. We deliver the curriculum based on the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, which in turn uses 6 areas of preschool learning to help map out your child’s development, these are:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
Observations on your child’s development are recorded in their preschool Learning Journeys; parents or carers are able to look at these at any time and we hold regular open mornings where parents or carers can go through these portfolios in more detail with the child’s key person.
We aim to work closely with other settings your child may attend and we will endeavour to link with your child’s primary school to make his/her transition to school as smooth as possible.
